Buffalo in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

A friend asked if I did commissions, and I replied I wasn't confident enough to yet. She said if I ever did a buffalo, to please let her know. I actually have done one, in colored pencil a few years ago, and I planned on doing another eventually because it would be part of Project 52. I looked up the photo I'd taken, started messing with it, experimenting with dry brush techniques and masking fluid. I really love how it came out. This is the 4th of Project 52.

Grand Canyon at Dusk

Week 3 of Project 52, from my first visit at Grand Canyon. I'm trying to get over my compulsion to finish a piece in one day. The issue with that, I tend to then think about it excessively. I will literally sit and look at my reference photo and try and work out what I'm going to do next. Then I'll toss and turn, trying to sleep, wondering if it will come out okay. I guess there are worse things to fixate on.

Grand Canyon National Park

This is the 2nd "Project 52" piece, based on the first photo I took of the Grand Canyon, one of my favorite places.

Buzz Lightyear

I wanted to try out masking fluid, but for what? Buzz's helmet of course. So I tried it out on a thin watercolor paper. I liked the face so much I kept going. And couldn't stop. The problem was I'd started it too low on the paper to complete the body.

Montezuma Castle National Monument

Our communities entertainment director started a group called Project 52 a few weeks ago. I have yet to attend due to the never ending series of illness I've had since about May 20th. It's for artists of all types to meet and discuss their work and hopefully inspire and be inspired. I've chosen to do a piece of art a week based on my cross country trips, and started with this stop in Arizona in 2004, which I consider the beginning of my travels. It's also the first piece I've included people in, as a matter of scale. I disliked the original and did something I rarely do, went back in and "fixed" it.

Completed 6/11/22

Flamingo

From another photo from Animal Kingdom Barbie took that I loved and wanted to paint. There are actually 3 flamingos in it, and I may do them all eventually.

Wildebeests

I had to look up if plural for Wildebeest is Wildebeests. Either is acceptable. I had wanted to do these since Barbie had taken the photo at Animal Kingdom. I'm very pleased with the result.

On Southern Water

I did this in our community art group in May before suffering from a horrid series of illnesses, that as of today, I'm still dealing with getting over. I don't recall the exact date, but it was a Saturday in mid May.
