Colored Pencil

The Spirit of Watercolor

The title of this is NOT The Spirit of Watercolor, it’s  Fog in the Superstition Mountains.
Barbie called it The Spirit of Watercolor after I voiced my uncertainty as to the quality of the piece, and now that is stuck in my head.

Grand Canyon Scene

It looks like the head of Zero from Nightmare Before Christmas, over the Grand Canyon.
Totally unintentional, and only noticed when I cut it down to 2.5” x 3.5”
Once you see it, you can’t unsee it!

Coneflowers & a Garden Gnome

I started trying watercolor pencils today. First photo is pre water. At this point I may prefer the pre water, which leads me to think I need more practice and/ or should stick to color pencil!

Both are 2.5” x 3.5”

Nubble Light, York, Maine

Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about this. Really.

Watercolor.
2.5” x 3.5”

Tonto National Forest, Arizona

I did this last night, 7/20.
I’m gonna just confess that I did not one but 2 pieces I’m not particularly happy with.
Perhaps it’s unrealistic to expect I’d be further along by now considering I just got back into art a week ago or so, but that’s my feeling.
There are parts of this I like, the looseness of the mountains and water. I may start going even looser, if that’s even possible, with landscapes, since for whatever reason I’m really happy with the extremely watery Grand Canyon from a few days ago.

Randy’s Donuts

Why Randy’s Donuts? What is Randy’s Donuts?
Randy’s is a landmark in Inglewood, California, near LAX.
All my paintings are from my photos of places I’ve visited.
When I decided I was going to start painting again, I began going through old photos, and randomly, the photo of Randy’s came up first.

Grand Canyon & Devils Tower, Wyoming

Yes, another Devils Tower. Not only that, it’s from the same photo. This time I drew it out in Pen first. I like the foreground better in this one, but I prefer the tower I painted last night!
The Grand Canyon, also drawn in Pen, is somehow the loosest piece I’ve done recently.
All are 2.5” x 3.5”

                                                     SOLD

Devils Tower, Wyoming & Superstition Mountain, AZ

Did these 2 last night, 7/16/19, both watercolor ACEO 2.5” x 3.5”
I’m happy with how Devils Tower came out, but not happy with the trees in the foreground.
This is the same issue I have with Superstition Mountain (yes, I know that they are Superstition MountainS, I’m taking artistic license.), I’m not thrilled with the foreground, though I’m not totally dissatisfied with the cactus.
This weekend I intend on checking out how too videos.

Starting Over Again

I’ve been wanting to start doing artwork again, and decided to try out 2 mediums I’ve never used, watercolor brush pens and watercolor pencils.

Both pieces are ACEO size, 2.5” x 3.5”

First is Grand Canyon at Sunset followed by Grand Canyon at Sunrise

Update 7/29/19- I cut this short! I didn’t notice until I went to put it in a 2.5”x3.5” sleeve! It’s actually 2”x 3.5”- DOH!
