Study for an Alien Abduction Art piece.
Originally, way back in the early 2ks, the concept was to purchase art at thrift shops, flea markets, yard sales, etc. and “abduct” them.
I’d ad my own artwork to others art.
Everything was supposed to be alien-centric, with ufos in each piece.
I quickly realized this needed to be expanded, but lost interest.
When I decided to start doing art again, Barbie suggested I pick up Alien Abduction Art again, because she loved it so much.
I agreed, but only if it included all of the Cryptozoological creatures I’ve always wanted to do.
This is a study for inclusion in a painting “abducted” at the Columbus Flea Market this past weekend.

You Get What You Pay For

I want to work with better paper, but 300lb. watercolor paper is extremely expensive. I don’t feel the work I’m producing at this early learning stage justifies the expense.
I found a paper that claimed to be 240lb. at a very reasonable price, so gave it a try.
It’s awful. It caused numerous problems with this piece, which I almost abandoned. I finished it with Barbie’s encouragement.
I won’t be using this paper for watercolor again, maybe it’ll be okay with colored pencils.

License to Float

I spotted this little red boat in Provincetown and took a photo, because I thought it was an awesome color. That and it was stenciled 007.

The Spirit of Watercolor Too

The Spirit of Watercolor

Barbie asked me to paint a flower painting.
People have asked for commissioned work. I’ve said no because doing it for money up front makes it feel like a job, which removes the joy.
So Barbie asking me to do anything... well I can’t say no, but I also am not doing a full blown production, so, well, here it is...

I will do a more refined piece at a later date, however!

I’m just going to come out and say it. I totally farmed the Suspender Cables. Yes I looked up the components of a
Suspension bridge to get that term.

I may do this one again.

I went through a lot of old photos this weekend that had been at my Mother’s apartment. When I saw the collection of Whale Watching people can’t from Provincetown, Massachusetts, I knew I had to do some. Provincetown was a huge part of my life for a few years. Many more paintings from there will come.

Cactus Flowers

Wow. Where to begin?
I love the flowers, not a fan of the cactus.
But the big issue is the blade in my cutter slipped and so instead of 3.5” it’s now it’s 3 5/8. And because I wanted to make it symmetrical, it’s 2 5/8” x 3 5/8”

The Grand Canyon

I got a heavier paper to practice on.
I had been working with 90 and 98lb paper, and felt that I couldn’t get too aggressive with water, though I sometimes did, with very unsatisfactory results.
I just got 140lb paper and can absolutely tell the difference.

Buffalo, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota

I was doing something I rarely do, sketch something out in pencil before committing to an actual piece, in this case, a buffalo. But I liked the pencil drawing enough to want to see what it would look like with color pencil over it. So I did the head, and decided to just keep on going, which is why only a portion of the buffalo is in frame.
